Overview

YES Summer in Spain: Group Study is an intensive Spanish language and culture immersion program designed for optimized learning. Students study Language, Culture, History and other topics in Spanish and attend a supplemental discussion forum to facilitate the collective absorption and comprehension of their new international experiences. Participants live with local Spanish host families in order to maximize exposure to and participation in the Spanish language and daily life. Classroom hours are complimented by field excursions to various Andalusian sites, giving participants real-life insight to local history and culture. Students have constant support available via group chaperons, host families, an on-site Program Director and other YES faculty.

Objective

To promote effective language learning while providing a unique international experience which broadens participant's perspectives and thought processes.

Highlights

Cultural Immersion and Integration:

Participants live in Seville with Spanish host families, participating in everyday Spanish life, providing for a genuine international experience and accelerated and effective language learning.

Students also interact on a daily basis with intercambios, Spanish peers from whom they learn language and culture through social interaction.

Course Credits:

YES works with individual schools to offer course credit based on specific criteria and guidelines.

Collective Learning:

Students participate in a group forum where they collectively discuss and analyze their experiences.


Eligibility

Participants must be:
  • In good standing at their school
  • Able to commit to the full length of the program
  • Open, flexible and motivated!

Program is open to Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior students


Transportation

Group airfare for this group made available through a partnership with a travel agency and will be purchased separately. 

Roundtrip airfare will be reserved on behalf of program participants. Flight itinerary will be made available at the bottom of this page in the Downloads section. 

Payments for flights are made directly to the travel agency. Payments must be made by (Date TBD). Participants must call:

Participants will have to cover their travel expenses to Madrid.

Transportation for most excursions is included in the program cost. Optional Excursions will be paid for separately.

Seville is a city best explored by foot or on bicycle. A map of the city and instructions on how to use public bicycles are included in the Welcome Pack.
